A clear vision for a better future ...

Context

A Hidden Crisis

Across Africa, millions of students are stepping into the digital age without the eye care they need. From smartphones to classroom screens, young people spend more time than ever using digital devices — yet most have never had an eye exam. Screen exposure and poor lighting are fueling a sharp rise in vision problems, with myopia rates in African cities climbing by over 25% in the past decade. For many families, the cost of prescription glasses exceeds a month’s income, turning a basic medical need into a luxury. As a result, countless bright students struggle to see the board, read clearly, or stay focused — an invisible barrier that limits learning and deepens educational inequality.

Our Response

Vision Learn Africa, an initiative of the Mac4Africa Foundation, was created to break this barrier.
We provide free eye screenings, consultations, and prescription glasses to underserved students across Africa. By working with schools, local clinics, and international partners, we bring vision care directly to classrooms — ensuring that every student can see, learn, and thrive.
